Kitchen Is The Heart of Your Home

At Cambridge Kitchens & Bathrooms, we have long believed this statement but recent research by the National House Building Council, revealed the kitchen is the most important room in the house to homeowners!

The Valentines Day survey revealed that we have become a nation of kitchen-lovers with twice as many people saying they ‘love’ their kitchens than love their bedrooms.
The survey looked at the top ten features that people love most about new build homes. Design and location came top in the list followed by size and space, and the benefit of having a ‘blank canvas’ to personalise.

The research was carried out using NHBC’s nine month customer satisfaction survey. The top 10 reasons people gave for loving their new home are:

  1.  Design and layout
  2.  Location
  3.  Size and space
  4.  Blank canvas
  5.  Kitchen
  6.  Well insulated/warm
  7.  Bedroom
  8.  Garden
  9.  Energy efficiency
  10.  No DIY

The NHBC – the UK’s leading standard-setting body and warranty provider of new homes, has been carrying out customer satisfaction surveys for over 10 years.

“This survey shows the design, through to quality, space, and even energy efficiency high up the list of reasons for loving a brand new home. Most interestingly, it shows the popularity of the kitchen, once one of the lowliest rooms in the house, which has transformed into perhaps the most important room in the house – a place to cook, eat, drink, work, and entertain.

“With more choice in the housing market now than ever, new homes are ticking most of the boxes for the things that buyers want – like space and design – when considering their next move.”

Mike Quinton, Chief Executive of NHBC
